About this place
Set in Taito Ward's Iriya neighbourhood, Someki offers carefully prepared Japanese dishes and seasonal accompaniments in understated surroundings. The menu features sashimi platters scaled to party size alongside seasonal small plates like tuna tossed with Kujo scallions and vinegared miso, each dish encouraging a relaxed progression over drinks.
The grilled and fried dishes are equally grounded in clean, precise technique. Saikyo miso-marinated grilled sablefish, slowly roasted fragrant shiitake mushrooms, and crisp squid-and-maitake tempura highlight the natural character of their ingredients. With drink choices spanning Kakubin highballs, draught beer, and various tea-infused shochu mixes, finding a fitting match for each dish is part of the pleasure.
To finish, warming bowls such as ochazuke flavoured with mountain-pepper dried young sardines or sea cucumber viscera, and savory shijimi clam miso soup provide a soothing, satisfying close. Quiet and unpretentious, Someki suits an evening spent dining solo just as well as an intimate dinner with company.
